The Catacombs

Tombs below Firelink where skeletons keep rising until their Necromancer is slain. Divine weapons help. Pinwheel waits at the bottom.

Bosses

  • Pinwheel: A weak boss that clones itself. Rush it down before it summons too many copies. Drops the Rite of Kindling and one of its masks.

  • Gravelord Sword: Gift for joining the Gravelord Servant covenant (coffin in the Catacombs).
  • Mace: Cleric starting weapon; sold by Patches; on a corpse before Pinwheel's fog gate.
  • Hammer of Vamos: Only obtainable by killing Vamos in the Catacombs.
  • Great Scythe: In a nook in the Catacombs reached by dropping off the second spinning bridge.
  • Lucerne: In a small skeleton-guarded room past the first bridge in the Catacombs.
  • Red & White Round Shield: Rare drop from shield-carrying skeletons (Firelink graveyard, the Catacombs).
  • Bonewheel Shield: Rare drop from Bonewheel Skeletons in the Catacombs or the Painted World.
  • Priest's Hat: Cleric starting gear; on a cliff in the bonewheel pit of the Catacombs, dropping from the second spinning bridge.
  • Holy Robe: Cleric starting gear; on a cliff in the bonewheel pit of the Catacombs, dropping from the second spinning bridge.
  • Traveling Gloves: With the Holy set in the Catacombs bonewheel pit; another pair is in Logan's chest in the Archives.
  • Holy Trousers: Cleric starting gear; on a cliff in the bonewheel pit of the Catacombs, dropping from the second spinning bridge.
  • Royal Helm: Dropped by Blacksmith Vamos if you kill him.
  • Mask of the Father: One of Pinwheel's random drops; also sold by Patches and dropped by Pinwheel Servants.
  • Mask of the Mother: One of Pinwheel's random drops; also sold by Patches and dropped by Pinwheel Servants.
  • Mask of the Child: One of Pinwheel's random drops; also sold by Patches and dropped by Pinwheel Servants.
  • Darkmoon Seance Ring: In a room past the bridge Patches controls, near the second Catacombs bonfire.
  • Gravelord Sword Dance: Gift for joining Gravelord Servant: lie in the empty coffin in the Catacombs crypt with the Titanite Demon.
  • Gravelord Greatsword Dance: Reward for reaching rank 1 in Gravelord Servant (offer 10 Eyes of Death).
  • Tranquil Walk of Peace: In the Catacombs: break the wall in the spiral tower past the second bonfire, then climb the hidden ladder up to a necromancer.
  • Rite of Kindling: Dropped by Pinwheel in the Catacombs.

Walkthrough: The Catacombs

  • Go down to the Catacombs Entrance bonfire, kill the Necromancer and pull the first switch.
  • Take out the next Necromancer with a ranged attack.
  • Clear the room it stood in and take the Lucerne from the side room.
  • Clear onward: a soul lies by the archer, and outside past the spike statues the second switch has another soul next to it.
  • Cross the bridge and kill the next Necromancer quickly.
  • A side room to the right has a weak floor. Fall through and catch the two Crystal Lizards while dodging the spike statues.
  • Climb out by the ladder and fall through another weak floor to return to the second switch.
  • Recross the bridge, then drop left three times; the Great Scythe and the third switch are down there.
  • The fourth switch is outside; after it, roll into the fake wall to find the Catacombs Bridge bonfire.
  • The fog gate past the bridge leads to a cracked wall; break it, drop down and clean out the room below.
  • Go up the steps, watch for the giant skeleton dropping from the ceiling and open the coffin for the Darkmoon Seance Ring.
  • Leave through the broken wall, climb the steps, kill the Necromancer and climb the ladder.
  • The Tranquil Walk of Peace miracle is up there; a weak floor nearby drops you back near the entrance.
  • Cross all the bridges back to the building full of coffins.
  • Before the Titanite Demon, rest in the left-hand coffin. It carries you to Nito's tomb, where you may join the Gravelord Servant covenant.
  • After the coffin brings you back, break the wall at the end of the corridor and fall through the floor; a Black Knight there drops a White Titanite Chunk.
  • Kill all the Wheel Skeletons from above with ranged attacks before you drop down.
  • Take the tunnel near the drop and kill the Necromancer for the Skull Lantern.
  • Climb the two ladders back to the coffin building, go outside and drop to the ledge with Paladin Leeroy's summon sign.
  • One ledge lower lie the Cleric Set and the Mace.
  • Defeat Pinwheel.
  • Paladin Leeroy can be summoned from the ledge above the Wheel Skeleton area.
  • Pinwheel drops the Rite of Kindling, which lets you kindle bonfires further.
  • You also get one random mask from it: Mask of the Father, Mask of the Mother or Mask of the Child.
  • Optional co-op around levels 20–40 or 55–65.
  • Behind the arena a ladder leads up to the Tomb of the Giants.
